Schema markup:
implemented so it actually shows up in results

A schema plugin reporting 'active' is not the same as schema that validates and actually earns a rich result. We implement schema by hand where it matters and validate it properly. Then we check in Search Console that it is read the way we intended, not just assumed to work.

Where a green checkmark lies to you

A site runs a schema plugin, sees a green checkmark, and assumes the job is done. The actual markup often does not match what is visibly on the page, a mismatch Google specifically flags. Or it is missing required fields that make it technically invalid, despite the plugin’s own confident status indicator. Nobody catches this, because checking actually requires running the markup through Google’s own validator and comparing it line by line to the rendered page. Most schema implementations skip that step entirely.

A frequent and avoidable cause: two plugins, or two parts of a custom build, both output schema for the same page. That produces duplicate or conflicting JSON-LD blocks that Google’s validator flags as an error, even though each block might look fine on its own. The problem only shows up when you actually view the full rendered page source.

What we actually do

We audit what schema is currently installed against what actually validates, not against what a plugin claims. We implement product, FAQ, article, local business and review schema per page type, written to match exactly what the page renders for a visitor. A mismatch between schema and visible content is treated as a quality signal by Google. Every implementation is checked in the Rich Results Test and monitored afterward in Search Console, to confirm it is being read correctly.

We check the fully rendered page, not just the template source. JavaScript-heavy sites sometimes output correct schema in the code but fail to render it properly by the time a crawler sees the page. That distinction matters a great deal, and is easy to miss without testing the live, rendered result directly.

What we need from you

Access to the CMS or template files where schema needs to be added. Your priority page types, so we start with the ones most likely to earn a visible rich result. A list of every plugin or integration currently touching SEO or schema on the site, even ones nobody actively manages anymore. Conflicts between them are the single most common cause of the validation errors we find. If a developer maintains the templates, a short call with them early saves a round of back and forth later.

How we measure it

Schema validation pass rate across page types. Rich result appearance in Search Console’s enhancement reports. Click-through rate change on pages that gain a rich result versus those that do not.

We watch Search Console’s enhancement reports weekly in the month after implementation. Google sometimes takes a few recrawl cycles to recognise a schema fix, and checking too early can read as a failure when it is simply not reflected yet. Click-through rate on the affected pages is reported alongside the validation status itself.

Price and timeline

Option Price What it covers Timeline
Launch or audit from $500 Schema audit, implementation on core page types, validation 1 week
Monthly management from $400 / month Ongoing schema maintenance as new page types or content launch monthly, no lock-in
Full control, handover to your team from $1,500 Full implementation plus a guide for your team on adding schema correctly going forward 1 week

Correct schema is also a precondition, not a nice-to-have, for the AI search optimisation work we do elsewhere. The same structured, machine-readable markup earns a rich result in Google. It also makes a page far easier for an AI answer engine to parse and cite accurately.

We generally recommend running a schema audit alongside any broader technical SEO audit, not as an isolated task. The two overlap in what they check and in the tools used to validate the result.

Pair this with on-page SEO for the content side and Core Web Vitals and speed for the performance side of a well-built page. Full services: SEO and content and development. This level of validated structured data runs across 973 pages in one of our own products. Get in touch and we will check right now whether your current schema actually validates.

FAQ

How much does schema implementation cost?

From $500 for the core page types (product, FAQ, article, local business) on a standard site. Multilingual sites or custom schema types for an unusual business model are scoped individually.

Will schema guarantee a rich result in search?

No. Google decides whether to show a rich result independently of whether the schema is valid. What we guarantee is that the schema is technically correct and consistent with the page content, the actual precondition for eligibility.

Why isn't my plugin's schema working?

Common causes: the schema does not match what actually renders on the page, a mismatch Google penalises. Required fields can be missing. Or multiple plugins output conflicting schema on the same page, which we find constantly in audits.

How long until rich results appear?

If eligible, rich results can appear within days of correct implementation and a successful re-crawl. Eligibility itself depends on factors beyond the markup, including content quality and trust signals.

What do you need from us?

Access to the CMS or templates where schema needs to be added. A list of your page types, so we can prioritise the ones most likely to earn a visible result. FAQ and product schema usually come first.
