A course app built around finishing,
not just starting

The hard problem in a course app is never video playback. It is the drop-off after lesson three. We build the progress and habit mechanics that fight that drop-off as a first-class feature, not a streak counter bolted on after the content is done.

The real problem is lesson three, not the video player

An education and courses app delivers structured lessons, tracks progress and fights the real problem every course product has: learners starting and not finishing. This is for a creator, school or brand with a curriculum worth productizing into its own app, rather than a generic course platform. It fits once owning the learning experience and the learner relationship matters more than the fastest path to publishing.

It is not the right build if your curriculum does not exist yet in a teachable form. Content needs to be structured and tested as lessons before an app is the bottleneck.

What is inside

The curriculum structure, modules, lessons and quizzes, is sized to your actual content. It is editable through an admin panel, so publishing a new lesson does not require a developer. Progress tracking is built as a completion mechanic, not a video progress bar. What counts as “done,” what comes next, and what brings a learner back tomorrow all get decided deliberately. That is the difference between a course finished and one abandoned at lesson three.

Offline download matters more for education than most app categories. A learner on a commute or in a low-signal area should not lose the lesson mid-way. Where it fits, an AI tutor answers questions scoped to your own content, not the open internet. Push notifications follow a learning schedule rather than generic re-engagement noise that trains learners to ignore notifications entirely.

We also build in the detail that decides whether a course product scales past its first batch of learners. Certificates or completion badges that feel like a real credential, not a token image. A cohort or self-paced mode, depending on how your curriculum is actually meant to be consumed. A feedback loop where low completion on a specific lesson flags it for a content review, instead of the data sitting unused in a dashboard nobody checks. For brands selling courses as a product, in-app purchase or a bundled subscription model gets wired in from the start. It is not something we retrofit once the first paying cohort is already asking for it.

How we build it

  1. Structure the curriculum first. Modules, lessons, quizzes and what “complete” means, before any screen is designed.
  2. Build the completion mechanic, not just playback. Progress tracking that actually predicts and prevents drop-off is the core engineering problem here.
  3. Add offline download early. It is a correctness problem, not a nice-to-have, for any learner without reliable signal.
  4. Scope AI tutoring to your content. If included, it answers from your curriculum, not a generic model with no guardrails.
  5. Launch with completion analytics. Drop-off by lesson is the number that tells you what to fix first.

Timeline and price

Tier Price What’s included Timeline
MVP from $6,000 Structured curriculum, progress tracking, offline download 6 to 10 weeks
Production from $11,500 MVP plus AI tutor, quizzes, completion analytics, admin content panel 10 to 14 weeks
Full control, handover-ready from $12,500 Everything in Production plus full handover documentation for your own team 10 to 14 weeks

What you own at the end

Your curriculum content sits in your own database, editable without us. The app runs under your own developer accounts, and you can analyze progress and completion data independently. If an AI tutor is in scope, its prompts and content scope are documented, not a black box. Your team can audit exactly what it is allowed to say before trusting it in front of a paying learner.

FAQ

How much does an education or course app cost?

From $6,000 for a structured curriculum with progress tracking and offline download. An AI tutor, quizzes with adaptive difficulty, or a certification flow typically adds $3,000 to $6,000.

How long does it take?

6 to 10 weeks once your curriculum structure, modules, lessons, quizzes, is defined. Building the curriculum content itself, as opposed to the app that delivers it, is scoped separately and depends entirely on your subject matter.

What stack powers the AI tutor, if we want one?

React Native and Expo for the client, FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL for curriculum and progress data. Claude or GPT power the tutor, scoped to answer only from your own course content rather than the open internet, with a running cost separate from the build.

Who owns the curriculum content and the app?

You do. Lessons, quizzes and progress data live in your own database, editable through the admin panel, and the app ships under your own developer accounts. Nothing locks your content into our systems.

Can this connect to a course platform we already use?

Often, yes. If your content currently lives in Teachable, a custom LMS, or a video host, we assess whether to sync from it or migrate it in. We say honestly which is less work before quoting.
