A loyalty program is a retention lever:
only if anyone remembers to use it

Most loyalty programs launch with a points system and a landing page, then go quiet. The program itself gets built, but nobody plans how members will be reminded it exists. We build both halves together.

Why loyalty programs get forgotten

A loyalty program’s actual value comes from changing behaviour: getting a customer to buy again sooner than they otherwise would. Most programs fail at this not because the points math is wrong, but because members forget the program exists between purchases. A points balance sitting unused in an account nobody reminds them about does nothing for retention, no matter how generous the reward structure looks on paper.

The second common failure is reward structure disconnected from margin. Tiers and rewards get set by what sounds appealing, rather than what the business can sustain. That either erodes margin quietly, or gets quietly rolled back later, damaging trust with the members who noticed.

The third gap is treating launch as the finish line. A loyalty program announced once by email, then left to run passively, misses every opportunity. It never reminds members of their balance, nudges them toward the next tier, or celebrates a redemption in a way that makes the next purchase more likely.

What we build for your program

We start with your actual repeat-purchase data: how often customers buy, what the average order looks like, and what margin is available to fund rewards. That sets the points-to-reward ratio and tier thresholds at a level that genuinely encourages return visits, without quietly bleeding margin. We also set up or integrate a loyalty platform with your store or CRM, so points and tiers track automatically.

The part most programs skip is the communication plan. It is the part we build first. That means a launch sequence that actually explains the program: what a member gets, and when. It also means an ongoing reminder sequence: balance updates, tier-upgrade nudges, redemption celebrations, across email and whichever messenger your customers already use. That way the program stays visible between purchases, instead of disappearing into an account page nobody checks.

For brands with existing loyal customers, we design a founding-member or VIP tier at launch. That way your best customers feel the program was built with them already in mind, not bolted on as an afterthought.

What we need to start

We need:

  • Your repeat-purchase history and current margin per order, so rewards are sized sustainably
  • Your existing loyalty platform, if you have one, or your preference if choosing fresh
  • Your rules on what a redeemed reward actually costs the business

What’s in the monthly report

We track enrollment rate among eligible customers, and redemption rate: the share of points actually used, not just accumulated. We also track the repeat-purchase rate of engaged members compared against non-members. All reported monthly.

A loyalty program with high enrollment and low redemption has not actually succeeded. It is just a database of unused points, and we report that distinction clearly.

Cost and timeline

Option Price What it covers Timeline
Launch or audit from $1,200 Program structure, platform setup, launch communication plan 3 to 4 weeks
Monthly management from $600 / month Ongoing reminders, tier campaigns, redemption messaging, reporting monthly, no lock-in
Full control, handover to your team from $2,200 Full build, documentation and training so your team runs the program 4 to 5 weeks

Where this fits with retention

This pairs with referral program launch, since loyal customers are also the most likely referrers. It also pairs with cross-sell and upsell campaigns, once a loyalty tier structure exists to layer offers on top of. See the sales funnels and CRM service page, and automate loyalty and referral programs for the agent-run version of ongoing member communication. FAQ

How much does loyalty program marketing cost?

From $1,200 for program structure, platform setup and the launch communication plan. Ongoing monthly management of reminders and tier campaigns usually runs from $600 a month.

How long until the program is live?

3 to 4 weeks from structure decisions to a fully communicated launch, platform setup and the first reminder sequence.

What budget do we need?

Loyalty platforms typically cost $50 to $500 a month depending on member volume, separate from program design. The reward cost itself (points redeemed as discounts or products) needs its own budget line, sized to your margin.

What do we need from you?

Your repeat-purchase data, so rewards are set at a level that encourages return visits without eroding margin. Also your existing platform, if you have one, and your rules on what rewards are financially sustainable.

How do you report on performance?

Enrollment rate, redemption rate, and repeat-purchase rate of members versus non-members, reported monthly so you can see whether the program is actually changing behaviour.
